Studio Boone Newsletter
May 2008
I am excited
to announce the expansion of Studio Boone! As of May 1, 2008 Studio
Boone has doubled in size. This allows me to have a dedicated class space in
addition to the gallery and equipment display space. The education center has
great natural light and is very comfortable in size and atmosphere. Luckily,
this expansion does not include a move. Studio Boone will be in the same location.
Come join us Friday, May 9th 5-8pm for
an EXPANSION CELEBRATION!
The education
center features a classroom and four dedicated workstations available for rent
to artists who do not have room at home to paint. Rental is on a month-to-month
basis and allows the artist to maintain a studio environment set up for painting
or drawing. Studio Boone is an “open” studio where anyone
who needs a space to be creative is welcome to participate. All of
my students are welcome to paint in the classroom during regular
hours as long as it does not conflict with a class. The classroom
is also available to artists who wish to teach classes of their own.
Please call me for more information.

Studio Boone’s
expansion allows me to maintain a larger inventory of specialty paints, papers,
brushes, and accessories. I have a good assortment of colored xuan papers as
well as raw xuans in double and single thickness. Regular paper stock now includes
single and double pi paper for landscape paintings or anything painted with multiple
washes. I also have a whole new supply of Winsor & Newton water colors. Japanese
gold and silver are also in stock. These metallic paints are incomparable
for adding accents to leaf veins or flower petals. New Chinese chip
colors are available including sky blue, lemon yellow, burnt sienna,
dark red, and rouge. Rouge is a beautiful chip color that is excellent
for deep red-purple flower centers. Accessories include brush rests,
brush rolls, telescoping paper storage and transport tubes, brush
hangers, and much more. I am very excited to be able to offer this
expanded product line.

The calligraphy
classes have been going well and the students who have joined me
have had a great time developing this ancient skill. If you have ever been
interested in Chinese calligraphy with a brush, I can help you to understand
how the brush strokes work and how to balance the characters. I am offering
calligraphy classes on a one on one basis for those of you who are interested.
Please contact me to arrange your personal Chinese Calligraphy class. Studio
Boone carries ink sticks, ink stones, and calligraphy grid paper to help you
enjoy your calligraphy even more.
I
have produced my third and fourth instructional
videos. My video
instruction series now includes the basic techniques and equipment,
bamboo, plum, and orchid. My instructional videos feature equipment
and color preparation as well as stroke by stroke guidance for each
segment of the subject. I am very proud of my video lessons. Videos
are offered at $25.00 each and are excellent tools to use in your
Chinese brush studies.
Summer Art Camps
This summer
I am teaching several one week art camps. These camps will feature
simplified compositions with emphasis on correct form and brush stroke delivery.
The one week camp runs Monday through Friday from 10-2:30 with a break for
lunch. Please pack a lunch. The first summer camp will be June 9-13.
And the second camp will be June 16-20. $150.00 per week. Each summer
art camp will feature different subject for students who wish to attend for
several weeks. Classes
are open for students from grades 6 and up & adults are welcome
too. You
can make it a parent-child class.
Thank
you,
Stephen
