Stephen M. Boone classical guitars are made by hand, one at a time, in Bozeman Montana. I make my guitars in the Spanish method using a solera, or building platform, that is made by me in my shop. The guitar is constructed face down on the solera, referenced to a center line. I use integrated Spanish heel construction with wedges anchoring the ribs to the neck. My guitars are heavily influenced by the work of Antonio de Torres with changes made to address the higher string tension of modern instruments. I strive to create instruments that are responsive, powerful, and easy to play.
Since I make guitars one at a time it is very easy for me to customize guitars at player request. I have four standard body sizes from small to large. If a particular body size is needed that I do not normally make, I can create a custom solera to accommodate the guitar size. I only make one size of guitar on one solera. Each solera needs to be refined specifically for one particular size and shape of guitar. If a player has smaller hands it is very easy to modify scale length as well as width and thickness of the neck and fretboard to accommodate.
I look forward to hearing from you and crafting a concert quality instrument for your needs. I am a prolific builder and new guitars come off of my bench much more frequently than I am able to update this website. Please feel free to contact me and inquire about recently completed instruments. As I complete instruments I take them to Music Villa here in Bozeman and they usually have several of my instruments on hand at any given time.
